How Arnie Mascali Turned Occasional LinkedIn Posts Into Real Thought Leadership

LinkedIn thought leadership built Arnie Mascali’s credibility from sporadic, low-engagement posts into a platform that’s reconnecting him with his network and opening doors he never expected.

The problem Occasional, unfocused LinkedIn posts with little engagement or feedback — starting to feel like a burden rather than a strategy
The solution eLuminate’s LinkedIn thought leadership partnership — structured, personal content strategy and a video series featuring industry professionals
The result Significantly increased engagement, unexpected financial ROI, new industry connections, speaking and panel opportunities, and reconnections with old friends and colleagues

Before working with eLuminate, Arnold (Arnie) Mascali’s LinkedIn presence looked like a lot of other smaller professional firms: an occasional post here and there, with little engagement or feedback to show for it. “We recognized at a certain point that either we were going to have to change our ways… or we were just simply wasting our time,” he says. “It was becoming a little bit more of a burden than it really needed to be.” That recognition led to a decision — expand the thought leadership effort seriously, and find the right partner to do it.

The Before: Knowing It Mattered, Not Knowing How

Arnold’s hesitation wasn’t about believing in the idea — it was about execution. “I just wasn’t sure how the message ought to be framed to the point where it would be received in the way that we wanted our clients and potential clients to receive it,” he says. Being more visible as a founder meant exposing his own thinking in a curated, professional way, and that wasn’t a skill he’d built yet. “I had to become more comfortable with it, frankly, of exposing myself, my thoughts, from a professional standpoint… I was not capable of doing that. I needed to have professionals around me advising me and guiding me in that.”

The Results: Engagement, ROI, and Connections He Didn’t Expect

Since working with eLuminate, Arnold points to a real shift in focus. “In the past, from my perspective, it was not really targeted and it really didn’t have what a goal was,” he says. “Now, in working together with you, I have a real sense as to what we’re trying to accomplish.” Engagement and responses — both on and off LinkedIn — have increased significantly, extending into a video series built around thought leadership conversations with other industry professionals.

What surprised him most was the return. “We’re starting to see financial returns. We never really envisioned that,” he says.

The One Thing That Made the Difference

Asked what single change had the biggest impact, Arnold pointed to something less tangible than any one tactic: confidence. “The confidence I’ve built when working with you is really the most important thing,” he says. He credits the encouragement to be more personal — something he initially assumed belonged on other platforms, not LinkedIn. “One of the posts that has had the most engagement was simply a Father’s Day post. I never thought of using LinkedIn in that way, to open myself up as more personal… I was surprised at how much of a response I got.”

A Shift in Mindset

The experience reframed how Arnie thinks about visibility altogether. Posting isn’t about volume anymore — it’s about intention. “There has to be some real reason behind it,” he says. That shift now shapes how he sees the investment: as a way to respond to what’s happening in his industry in real time and, as he puts it, “to tell our own story as opposed to having someone else tell our story.”

Why It Sticks

Arnie sees the continued investment as long-term, not transactional. His industry is a responsive, niche corner of insurance — when major events happen globally, people look to experienced voices for commentary. Staying consistently visible keeps him in that conversation. “That investment that we’re making, we look as a long-term investment to help us continue to get our narrative out.”

The Personal Impact

Beyond the business case, Arnie points to something he didn’t anticipate: reconnecting with people entirely outside his professional orbit. “There are those we’re connected to that have nothing to do with business… friends or colleagues or people we worked with in the past, or someone I went to school with,” he says. “It’s helped me really reconnect with so many people because they’re starting to see my name, they’re starting to see my posts pop up… From a personal standpoint, it’s been quite satisfying.”

The Takeaway for Other Leaders

Arnie’s advice to another founder or executive who thinks LinkedIn thought leadership isn’t worth the time is drawn straight from his own hesitation. “I was there. I was one of you. I just didn’t know what the benefits could be of doing it in a very structured, organized, professional way,” he says. Since committing to the strategy, he’s seen opportunities well beyond engagement metrics — including invitations to speak and join panels he never would have been considered for otherwise. “If you’re not doing it now, your competitors are doing it… and you’re going to be falling behind.”
